07. Employee Engagement in Change

(Pappas, 2023)

Any organization will eventually experience change, but workers may find it difficult, unpleasant, and upsetting. In times of change, how can you maintain the motivation, output, and alignment of your team? Based on tested employee engagement models, here are some of the greatest strategies for keeping staff members engaged amid change.

How to engage employees in organizational change?

1. Create a convincing vision.

Launch a convincing and understandable picture of the ideal future situation following the transformation. Showcase the ways in which the organization and its employees will profit from the change, motivating them to strive toward the common goal.

2. Employee empowerment and involvement.

Instead of forcing a change from the top down, ask staff members for their opinions and involve them in decision-making and problem-solving. They will feel more empowered, respected, and appreciated as a result, and their ownership and dedication to the change will grow.

3. Offer opportunities for skill development.

Provide training and development opportunities to ensure that newly hired staff members have the skills and knowledge needed to properly adjust to the shift. Employees feel more empowered and confident taking on new tasks as a result.

4. Lead with example.

Making people feel involved during transition is a major responsibility of leaders. By displaying a dedication to the change and setting an example for others to follow, they should express the desired attitudes and actions.

5. Build a positive culture.

Employee resistance, worry, and uncertainty can be caused by change, so it's critical to foster an environment that values cooperation, trust, and creativity. A growth mentality and a learning culture can be promoted, best practices and lessons learned can be highlighted, and success stories and testimonies of change projects can be shared.

6. Recognize and reward employees.

Recognize and appreciate the work that staff members have done throughout the transition. Acknowledge accomplishments and significant junctures in public, emphasizing their significance to the process.

Employees that experience empowerment and engagement during the change process become passionate change agents who drive the organization toward its intended future state.
