09. Impact of Change in HR
(Team, 2019)
Impact of Change in HR
The business
and operational environment of a company are subject to continuous change,
which can have an impact on the function of human resources. The HR division
frequently acts as a liaison between the management of the business and the workforce,
which is essential in helping the transition process forward. HR may be
impacted in important ways by change.
Recruitments & Retirements
Organizational
change can create the need for the HR department to focus on staffing issues.
Organizations undergoing rapid growth may need to add more employees, so HR may
have to focus on expanding its recruiting base or structure compensation
programs to attract more talented workers. A company in decline may require HR
to develop severance packages and carry out employee terminations. HR workers
may also have to alter job descriptions for the remaining workers if the
layoffs result in a change in job functions.
Build up confidence in employees.
Workers
frequently experience worry and uncertainty as a result of organizational
change, and HR may need to take action to calm these concerns. For example,
when a larger company buys out a smaller one, employees may become anxious
about how well they will be able to adjust to the new policies and procedures
and whether their employment will be at risk. The HR department might need to
take on a public relations role by highlighting the advantages of the new
agreement, like an improved benefits program, and assuring people that their
jobs are secure.
Better
Communication
Open lines
of communication between the HR department and employees are necessary since
organizational change is sometimes accompanied by a period of general
misunderstanding. HR should promote employee input and feedback in addition to
providing staff with written communications and maybe group meetings to explain
what to expect at each stage of the transformation process.
Human
Resource management teams are responsible for a huge variety of company and
business tasks.
